Dr. Verena Voelter
CEO & Founder, Author,
5P Health Care solutions
Dr. Verena Voelter
CEO & Founder, Author,
5P Health Care solutions
Dr. Voelter is driven by her passion for the patient. This
being her North Star for over 25 years, she summarized
that experience working in medicine, science and health
care in her book, entitled « It Takes 5 to Tango – from
Competition to Cooperation in Health Care».
After more than a decade as a clinician at the patient’s
bedside (Bonn, München, Lausanne) and another as an
executive in pharma in Europe, the US and Asia (Celgene,
Novartis), she came to conclude that a fundamental
mindset change is needed. VALUE and COOPERATION
instead of transactional selling and silo-mentality are the
two key themes that forge her activities as a consultant,
lecturer, moderator, podcaster, and writer today.
Breaking down silos, removing roadblocks, and strengthe-
ning the connectivity between the actors along the 5P
value chain is at the center of her motivation: PATIENTS
receiving care, PROVIDERS providing care, PHARMA
developing care, PAYERS paying for care and POLICY
setting the regulatory framework.
As the CEO and Founder of 5P Health Care Solutions® she
and her team deliver executive COACHING for collabora-
tive negotiation skills, CONSULTING for complex 5P projects
as well as MODERATING panel discussions and keynote
speeches for all audiences within the 5P ecosystem. In ad-
dition to her consulting work, Verena has been serving as
a lecturer at various institutions: Northwestern’s Kellogg
School of Management in Chicago, ETH in Zürich, IMD in
Lausanne as well as VBHC center Europe.
Supporting 5P health care leaders in implementing value-
based health care and in adopting collaborative negotia-
tions skills is a constant source of inspiration to her. Her
company’s client base spans across hospitals and academia;
pharma and MedTech; life science startups; insurances and
health authorities; and patients.

Don McDaniel
Chief Executive Officer,
Canton & Company
Don McDaniel
Chief Executive Officer,
Canton & Company
Healthcare is grossly imperfect, opaque, and highly frustrating to most
involved. Consumers are an afterthought, mostly pawns in a morass of
cronyism and protectionism among an entrenched status quo. There are
pockets of excellence, but also high variability; not the requisite consistency,
reliability, and transparency we would expect from such a critical industry. It
is this paradox, “the best of times, the worst of times” that captured Don
McDaniel’s imagination over 30 years ago and drives him (crazy) today.
An industry leader and serial entrepreneur with more than 25 years’
experience, Don has experienced healthcare’s dysfunction from many seats.
He served as a hospital, health services, technology, and insurance industry
executive, and as an operating partner for a healthcare venture capital firm.
He also founded several new ventures, including Canton & Company.
Consistent across his diverse background is helping disruptive healthcare
companies of all sizes and at various stages succeed.
Parallel to his work in industry, Don has been committed to educating and
mentoring next generation leaders. He taught health economics, corporate
strategy and various “business of healthcare” courses at several universities,
including a 17-year stint at his alma mater, The Johns Hopkins University,
with teaching appointments at Carey Business School and the Bloomberg
School of Public Health. In 2018, he became the first Entrepreneur-in-
Residence at Thomas Jefferson University’s College of Population Health,
where he continues as a faculty member. In 2023, Don joined UCL’s (London)
new Global Business School for Health, as an inaugural Health Executive in
Residence.
In addition to his work as an operator and advisor, Don is a seasoned board
member, executive coach and investor and leader sherpa. He is a recognized
health economist, and innovative thought leader, and a dynamic,
entertaining, sought-after speaker, writer, and facilitator. He has delivered
hundreds of speeches across the industry, including delivering keynote
addresses at prominent industry events.
An unabashed acolyte of Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell and Clayton
Christensen, Don is a convicted believer in the power of markets and
committed to disrupting the old order to reshape the healthcare industry.
